Holiday Meanings
New Years Day:

A celebration of the year to come and a time often associated with making a resolution for the new year. New years eve is often a celebration with midnight on new years eve being a countdown to the new year.

 

Australia Day:

The national day is celebrated on 26 January each year. It commemorates the anniversary of the unfurling of the British flag by Governor Arthur Phillip at Sydney Cove in 1788.

 

Easter Friday:

A significant part of the christian calender. The day Christians believe Christ died.

 

Easter Sunday:

A significant part of the christian calender. Celebrates the resurrection of Jesus. Often the exchange of Easter Eggs occur.

 

Easter Monday:

A significant part of the christian calender.

 

Anzac Day:

Commemorates the World War One battle of 1915. The battle began on April 25 in Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey. It also is for all who have fought for Australia and those that lost their lives in other conflicts and wars.

 

Queens Birthday:

Commemorates the Queen of Australia, who is also the Queen of England, birthday.

 

Labour Day:

Also known as Eight Hour Day commemorates the granting of an eight-hour working day to stonemasons in the state of Victoria after they downed tools and marched on Parliament House to fight for improved working conditions. In what is generally regarded as a world first, they won the right to ‘eight hours work, eight hours rest and eight hours recreation’.

 

Christmas Day:

A significant part of the christian calender. Often the exchange of Christmas gifts occurs.

 

Boxing Day:

Part of Christmas celebrations. The origin has not got a clear agreement on.
